The Knysna Fires are still firmly placed in our minds; they nearly devastated the small coastal town but thanks to the helpers, the community was restored.

South Africa (22 April 2024) – When disaster strikes, it can feel overwhelming and isolating but then, the helpers start to rally, offering support, kindness and a helping hand to get through the worst of it all. A new advert is highlighting how people and businesses came together during the 2017 Knysna Fires and it’s giving us all the feels!

Set to a rendition of I’ll Stand by You by local artist Bongeziwe Mabandla, the advert takes us back to that harrowing day in June 2017 when fires engulfed the Knysna community, leading to the tragic loss of life, the devastation of 16,000 hectares of vegetation, and billions of rands of damage to infrastructure and property. It illustrates how you cannot put a price tag on peace of mind and that ‘suddenly’ moments (a devastating event that turns your world upside down) can happen to any of us when we least expect it. During these times, we need to know that calm and hope will be restored.

While hundreds of families lost everything, Auto&General reaffirms they were there. The team worked tirelessly, on the ground and behind the scenes to ensure that their customers were safe and that all their claims were paid within a matter of days.

“Auto&General have been committed to the restoration of lives and livelihoods for almost four decades. Commitment has always been our currency and making good, our promise. In a world full of uncertainty, we promise certainty. In a world full of unpredictability, we promise reliability. This is a promise we make to each and every customer and the reason of why we exist as a business,” said Johanni Jennings, Head of Marketing at Auto&General.

When disaster strikes, Auto&General is committed to being there. Take a look at the heartwarming new advert below which veteran columnist Brendan Seery has awarded with a coveted “Orchid”.
