public safety

There is an AI system that is set to change the face of public safety in South Africa and it could be here in the near, near future.

Public Safety is a big concern in South Africa but there is a new technology on the horizon that could completely change the face of operation systems behind emergency services and crime control.

Motorola Solutions is working on an Artifical Intelligence (AI) system that will integrate multiple systems and help connect a variety of services such as fire, police, traffic and health. By integrating these services through the use of AI, it will streamline these services and make it easier for the public to get the help they need.

“At Motorola Solutions we design systems, create devices, infrastructure, software and services to help people be their best in the moments that matter. We help firefighters see beyond buildings and police officers see around corners. We make entire power grids visible to utility workers and pipelines to oil rig control rooms. We provide the situational awareness first responders need to respond better to major incidents and help companies deliver shipments at the moment they’re promised.”

The new world of digital policing will mean officers will have more time in the communities, less paperwork and stay one step ahead of complex criminals.

“The complexity of crime is increasing and the need for efficient information sharing within and between different agencies has never been greater.”

Through the use of radios, officers will be able to have access to vital intelligence within less than a second. This will happen because AI will have the ability to process through lots of data from multiple services as mentioned above. By using data collected from all public services, the AI system could predict crimes within high crime zones and ensure faster responses within those areas.

With well-placed cameras, the AI will be able to spot wanted criminals through the use of advanced facial recognition. The AI camera technology will have the ability to see more detail than a human eye even in low-resolution conditions. It will also have the ability to correct footage to give it better clarity and redact the faces of civilians when footage is needed for court proceedings.

“Command Center Software from Motorola Solutions combines a unified, intuitive experience with intelligent capabilities, enabling control room operators to efficiently manage diverse data from an ever-increasing number of sources. Motorola Solutions will also give exclusive insights into its newly acquired end-to-end security platform from Avigilon, which brings high-quality video and Al-based analytics to public safety and commercial workflows. Other MCTA highlights include Motorola Solutions’ public safety apps suite featuring new applications like the Capture Mobile Camera app, which allows frontline teams to securely capture images, video and audio with a verifiable chain-of-custody from the moment of capture.”

The AI system will be marketed to local government and businesses. The future of AI has multiple facets and seeing it used to improve public safety is very exciting.

At the moment, they are developing the systems to create the perfect AI public safety platform. It is very near in the future, the world is moving forward so fast that it is closer than we think.
