The competition was tight, with My Smart City being amongst 1,700 entries into the App of the Year Awards from across the African continent. The event is synonymous with the growth of African tech innovation. It has uncovered some of the best-known apps on the continent, providing solutions for economic, social and business sectors.

After carefully reviewing all submissions, judges shortlisted the 140 finalists that were announced two days later. Judges then select and announce the top 3 finalists in each of the thirteen categories, and My Smart City was in the top three for ‘Best Enterprise Solution’.

The ‘Best Enterprise Solution’ category includes tech-focused solutions for business challenges such as storage, CRM, Internet of Things and smart solutions to complex problems. My Smart City won the award for the best solution set to address these issues.

“We developed the My Smart City platform to provide smart solutions to societal and economic issues in South Africa using technology. The platform allows citizens to improve their communities by engaging municipal and private service providers. We are elated this privately funded initiative continues to gain traction and effect positive change in our cities”, said Kennedy Mogotsi, COO of Acumen Software.

My Smart City seeks to empower the citizens of South Africa by providing them with the technology and tools to combat unemployment by creating 50,000 disruptive jobs in the next five years.

More than this, the platform has created a thriving ecosystem where citizens stand together and effect change in their communities through ‘crowd engagement.’ The goal is to empower citizens by allowing them to report service delivery issues with local municipalities and have them resolved.

More than 50,000 citizens are tracking their logged issues in real time from the platform. This activity generates real action and meaningful change.

“We’re incredibly proud to receive this award, a win for us and South African citizens. We continue to pursue meaningful change in our metropolitan areas with no intention of slowing down but speeding things up”, said Joao Zoio, CEO of Acumen Software.

My Smart City is available on the Apple App Store,  Google Play Store, and the My Smart City Website.
