TEARS Foundation supports survivors and victims of gender-based violence; thanks to the support of AVBOB, they can reach even more women with a helpful app.
South Africa (16 August 2022) – Companies are listening to South Africans and lending a helping hand in the fight against gender-based violence. The TEARS Foundation has received backing from AVBOB, and now its ‘Help-At-Your-Fingertips’ app is accessible to women throughout South Africa.
Addressing social problems is high on AVBOB’s list of priorities. The company delivers valuable services while also creating a positive community impact.
The TEARS Foundation was started by Mara Glennie, who was determined to transition from being a GBV survivor to becoming a support service for women in need. She became inspired to launch the foundation and offer the support she never got when she needed it most.
What Mara noted during her own struggles with gender-based violence was it was very hard to reach out for help. This inspired her to open a helpline that works to connect women to services that will aid them in getting away from abusive situations or accessing the medical care needed to overcome sexual trauma.
With the foundation’s Help-At-Your-Fingertips support line, sponsored by AVBOB, over 99,000 victims of gender-based violence have been assisted to date. The helpline has both a phone line and a new app that provides a woman in need with a database of over 3000 free service health facilities across the country. These services assist with rape, abuse and gender-based violence, changing the support landscape for women most in need.
The best part is the woman only needs her phone to access help; she can do it discreetly and receive all the information she needs without anyone else needing to know.
