Qhubeka

Proudly South African sports drink brand BOS Sport and Qhubeka Charity have announced an exciting partnership through which 10 cents from every bottle of BOS Sport sold will go towards funding bicycles for the South African charity.

BOS Sport was looking for a corporate social initiative to support, that gave back to the South African people and used sport/exercise as a mechanism for social development. Qhubeka is a charity that moves people forward with bicycles. People earn bicycles through Qhubeka programmes, improving their access to schools, clinics, jobs and sports.

“Qhubeka is an amazing local charity and a perfect fit for the BOS Sport brand. The impact of bicycles is immediate – they are a tool that empowers people to change their own lives. We couldn’t be more excited to be on this journey with the Qhubeka team,” says William Battersby, BOS Managing Director.

BOS Sport will be supporting Qhubeka’s goal of changing 1 million people’s lives in South Africa, using bicycles. Qhubeka is an Nguni word that means “to progress”, “to move forward”. Bicycles help people move forward. With a bicycle, a person can travel faster and further, and carry more.

“We are excited to have BOS Sport on board to support us to reach our goal,” says Qhubeka Executive Director, Tsatsi Phaweni. “It’s great to see South African brands supporting local communities and we believe there is no better tool than bicycles to change lives. In Africa, a lack of access to transport means that people have to walk long distances to get to jobs, clinics, shops and opportunities.

With a Qhubeka bicycle, people can travel four times faster than if they were walking. A bicycle also increases a person’s carrying capacity by five times and saves money on public transport. Like BOS Sport, we also believe in the positive impact of sport, so the partnership makes complete sense.”

Of South Africa’s 16 million school-going children, 12 million walk to and from school and 500 000 walk more than two hours to school and two hours back. With a Qhubeka bicycle, a child’s commute is reduced by up to 75%. 10 cents from every bottle of BOS Sport sold will go to Qhubeka.

BOS Sport contains organic rooibos, less sugar, zero colourants and essential electrolytes, all ensuring you stay hydrated and perform at your peak in the healthiest way possible. BOS Sport gives you the power to last longer and push yourself harder – WANT STAYING POWER? GO BOS SPORT.

Together BOS Sport and Qhubeka are on the journey to empower the South African people, changing lives through bicycles.
