Remember in February when we told you that a South African Bakery was going to donate funds to help build houses? Well, they have just built four new homes in KwaZulu-Natal.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (06 August 2023) – A South African Bakery and Habitat For Humanity SA joined forces to create a heartwarming tale of compassion and community upliftment. The inspiring duo recently handed over the keys to not one, not two, but four brand new homes in KZN, valued at a generous R1 Million!

With a legacy spanning over 170 years, BB Bakeries is a cherished and beloved brand in KwaZulu-Natal. When disaster struck the province in 2022, leaving thousands displaced and homes destroyed, BB Bakeries knew they had to step in and help their fellow KZN’ers rebuild their lives, one loaf at a time.

Teaming up with the renowned Habitat for Humanity SA, BB Bakeries launched the “Bread for Bricks” campaign, a brilliant initiative where every loaf of BB Bakeries bread purchased translated into donated bricks for building homes. Together, they put in the hard work, and their efforts resulted in four beautiful new houses for families who had lost everything in the floods.

Stephanie Hoy, Premier FMCG’s Marketing Executive, spoke with genuine care and said, “We care deeply about our communities, and that is why, after the devastating floods, we partnered with Habitat for Humanity SA to give back to you, our beloved KZN’ers.”

Kgotla Bantsi, the Board Chair of Habitat for Humanity SA, expressed heartfelt gratitude to BB Bakeries for their invaluable support in transforming the lives of families in need. For Habitat for Humanity, building homes and restoring dignity and hope are at the heart of their mission.

The act of kindness didn’t stop at providing shelter alone. BB Bakeries went above and beyond, ensuring that each home was fully furnished with essential household items. From cozy beds and bedding to dinner sets and crockery, towels, lamps, and even gas heaters & cylinders – these thoughtful touches made the new houses truly feel like home.

Hoy beautifully explained, “A home is a symbol of community, a pillar of strength throughout the difficult moments that our province is currently facing. By building homes, we are hoping to restore the dignity and strength of KZN’ers in the same way that they have been doing for one another, the province over.”

In the end, this heartwarming partnership between BB Bakeries and Habitat for Humanity SA exemplifies the power of giving back to the community and spreading hope. Together, they have made a significant impact, proving that small acts of kindness can truly make a world of difference for those in need. With their love and generosity, they have brightened the lives of four families and brought smiles back to their faces. It’s stories like these that remind us of the incredible things that can happen when we come together as one big, caring family!
