Buddibox is addressing the employment crisis for matriculating teens by creating a new job opportunity that benefits them and the community.
The youth entrepreneurship programme is set to change the future of 100 students by training them to become “Buddis”. The Buddibox is a grocery delivery system designed to make the lives of township residents easier. The concept is that a “Buddi” gets allocated 200 households within their neighborhood.
The Buddi is required to build relationships with their potential clients and the through a number of suppliers, place orders for grocery and household items. Once everything is ready, the Buddi collects the order and delivers it to the house of the client using a Buddi allocated tuk-tuk.
The Buddi will be the face of the company and responsible for engaging directly with the consumer, working on sales and capturing all relevant data. The Buddi will achieve sales by walking door to door to introduce the service to their allocated client base. They will be responsible for ensuring follow up orders are made.
Currently the project is being tested with 100 Buddis in Ekurhuleni but the goal is to have 2 024 Buddis operational by March and at least 10 000 in Gauteng by the end of 2017.
CEO Isaack Lesole says,
“Prospective Buddis can now start applying for consideration”, “It is important, they must be a positive, driven, motivated and ambitious self-starter; entrepreneurially minded and want to be in business and economically independent”
The company has teamed up with the University of North West, it’s compulsory for each successful Buddi to study through the programme. This ensures the Buddi has employment and a way to get an education. Buddibox is wants unemployed and unskilled applicants whom want to transform into academically empowered entrepreneurs.
“It’s hoped that through the opportunity to earn and develop skills, that those who work with us will go on to become the big business leaders of tomorrow, leading fulfilling, successful lives because they make life affirming choices today. In so doing they will build a brighter future for themselves and the larger community in which they live and operate,”
“While it’s expected that the programme will contribute towards township economic revitalisation, we believe it will also reduce prevalent social ills like crime, drug abuse and alcohol addiction.”
To remove risk to the Buddi, a cashless eCommerce platform has been set up, making use of apps and eWallet for payment. By implementing a technical side the project allows for accurate and verified information collection.
In working together the Buddibox can reduce the education and employment gap and urges any potential applicants to apply via their website here, you can also find out more about the project.
