If you ever thought charities were last on consumers’ minds over the festive season, you couldn’t be more wrong.

Thousands of entries and charity nominations have been pouring into the West Pack Lifestyle community focused competition, where customers are being rewarded with a share of R500,000.00 in cash prizes for shopping with a purpose. The chain of retail stores is also matching customers’ winnings and donating cash to their favourite charity. Among the most popular types of charities nominated and being chosen by winners have included cancer, children and animal non-profit organisations.

Seven charities that focus on children have been nominated to receive cash donations from West Pack Lifestyle, including Impilo Child Protection & Adoption Services, Fred and Marties Soup Kitchen, Baby Moses Baby Sanctuary, Mother of Peace orphanage, Abraham Kriel Childcare, Modubpe Creche and Feed A Child.

Another seven charities that focus on cancer (including childhood cancer) have been nominated, from CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation, Rainbows and Smiles, CANSA (nominated twice), The Sunflower Fund, Stepping Stone Hospice and Cupcakes of Hope Cancer Foundation.

Four charities that focus on animals, including FORA (Friends of Rescued Animals), The Society for Animals in Distress, the NSPCA and Sandton SPCA will also each receive much needed cash donations from West Pack Lifestyle.

Among some of the other charities who have received cash donations already include Yad Aharon & Michael Jewish Food Fund, DASH, Have A Heart Care Centre for the Elderly, Dasha Foundation school for disabled children, and so many more.

The competition is 21 days in and already R440,000.00 in cash prizes and donations have been allocated to customers and their favourite charities. Winners are announced every day, and there’s still R560,000.00 to be given away (R280,000.00 cash for winning customers, and another R280,000.00 cash for their favourite charities).

Chris Jnr Da Silva, Managing Director of the West Pack Lifestyle Group said: “So many of our customers reach out to us with heartfelt requests for donations to help a cause or local charity that is close to their hearts. This year our competition provides our customers with the chance to win cash to spend on things they really need, but also the opportunity to give back to their favourite charity in a meaningful way.”

Residents in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Free State and North West still have the opportunity to enter the competition in-store or on www.westpacklifestyle.co.za, as cash winners and their nominated charities are announced daily until Saturday, 23 December 2017. Every R200 spent in-store is one competition entry.

On Saturday two grand finale winners will be chosen to receive R50,000.00 cash, along with R50,000.00 each for their favourite charity.

Chris added that West Pack Lifestyle has a very unique shopping culture. “Many of our customers are moms and dads or guardians, business owners, teachers and school representatives, event organisers, sports people and volunteers fundraising for a cause. We see them speak to our store managers and staff about a creative project or event they need help with, or furniture or stationery they may need to start a business or help a school with. They’re also caring individuals gift shopping for a friend or loved one because they know it will bring them joy or they can purchase something functional that will make life or business easier for them. It’s a pleasure to help our customers give back, especially if they may not have the means to do so,” Chris said.
