This week on Good Things with Brent Lindeque, we unpack a simple message that could make a massive difference: Drive Now, Text Later.

Johannesburg, South Africa (02 July 2025) – This week’s episode of Good Things with Brent Lindeque dives into a conversation that could genuinely save lives.

We got to sit down with Robert Attwell, CEO of Discovery Insure, to talk about a new campaign that’s calling on South Africans to take a stand against one of the most dangerous habits behind the wheel:texting while driving. The campaign is called Drive Now, Text Later, and while it’s being spearheaded by Discovery Insure, Robert makes it clear: “This isn’t just about us. This is a national movement, and it’s going to take all of us to make a difference.”

It’s simple but powerful. And it’s long overdue.

According to statistics, distracted driving, especially involving mobile phones, is one of the leading causes of road accidents in South Africa. It’s become so normal to glance down at a screen that we’ve forgotten how serious the consequences can be. But what if we could shift that habit? What if we could get everyone to pause before picking up the phone?

That’s exactly what Drive Now, Text Later is aiming to do.

The campaign invites South Africans to make a simple pledge, to focus on the road, and not on their phones. It’s not about judgement or finger-pointing. It’s about accountability, awareness and creating safer roads for all of us.

And yes, it’s a Discovery initiative. But it’s also a collective call to action.

If you’ve ever checked your phone at a red robot or texted a quick reply while driving, this campaign is for you. And if you’re reading this and thinking, “I’ve done that,” you’re not alone. But now’s the time to change.

Because the best thing we can all do?

Drive now. Text later.
