A local community initiative is about to turn crime on its head by introducing a wide ranging area security upliftment project to combat smash and grabs and similar activity in the area.
Future City Fourways (FCF) has been working tirelessly behind the scenes for some time on a number of aspects of the Greater Fourways Community safety and is about to launch a new project that will make the local area even safer.
The areas to be covered in the initial phases are William Nicol from the Highway to Dainfern and Witkoppen Road from Douglas Drive to Main Road.
The intersections and roadways will receive dedicated surveillance patrols and rapid response drawing on private sponsorships recently secured and the recently approved City Traffic Warden project and new planned JMPD deployments.
Recently Execute Mayor Herman Mashaba explained that creating safe and connected communities through the city is one of the key objectives of the new administration.
“To that aim, we have allocated R31 million to JMPD for the recruitment of a further 1500 JMPD Officers. This will be a major breakthrough in the city’s efforts to combat crime, enforce by-laws and manage traffic congestion.”
Utilising SAPS identified crime spots, teams of dedicated patrollers shall be deployed to protect motorists and their property.
“The precise details and sponsors and related details shall be announced over the next few weeks and it is envisaged that the first test deployments are to take place effective 1 September 2018 but various aspects of the project shall not be placed into the public domain including technology deployment information and tactics utilised to keep the information safe while keeping community members safe too.”
All community role players are free to be involved and to augment the project positively for our community and we continue to encourage private security companies to make use of the opportunities to participate and promote their services.
Community safety is simply too important to be left to chance and we call upon all our Fourways community to support the teams as they deploy and work to protect our community and all its members.
