South Africans have been sharing their #GoodThingsGoodAdvice and we can’t see to get enough of it!
#GoodThingsGoodAdvice was a campaign created to share some good advice with each other while standing the chance of winning R10 000 for our readers but it’s created something even more incredible… social activists inspiring us (and each other) with the most amazing ideas.
Good Things Guy partnered with OUTvest to bring good advice stories to the world during August and September!
“The GoodThingsGuy is the home of everything good, and those are the things that really matter! We believe that there is good news all around us and are eager to hear your good advice story.”
The campaign has reached nearly half a million people in less than a month and we have received so many incredible ideas that we wanted to share some of them with you.
Just remember that these ARE NOT the winners (yet) and you still have the opportunity to add your advice into the mix.
The concept is simple. Share your good advice story and you could win R10 000 in an OUTvest account, and all you need to do is follow these easy steps.
- Share your good advice with us on twitter and/or Facebook or even in the comments section using the hashtag #GoodThingsGoodAdvice
- Download the OUTvest app and register a new OUTvest account or do this on the web (remember that you need an OUTvest account to stand the chance of winning).

Check out some of the amazing advice that is being shared below:
Rene Kim advised: “My child asked me this morning what race she is. I said we’re South African darling, which also makes us African… So actually everyone you see today, is just like you. If we all see each other as South African Africans in all our gloriously diverse splendour, and that we’re in it together, we can make the tip of Africa glow. #GoodThingsGoodAdvice”
Margaret Brune recommended: “Even though we live in a technologically advanced era, always remember that life and relationships exists on the other side of the screens we look at most of the time. I always tell my kids to put real life and real relationships first because that’s where we really live, in the real world. Technology is great, but they don’t hold real life situations. #GoodThingsGoodAdvice”
Bronwen Honer Davies posted: “#GoodThingsGoodAdvice Each tenant and homeowner should take responsibility to keep her/his pavement clean and free from litter and weeds. Instead of thinking it’s the municipality’s job, just do the right thing and clean up yourself. It will make our country a better place for us all to live in.”
Amanda Stoop entered with: “All ministers and government officials should only use public transport, public schools , public hospitals . That might ensure that they know what is happening in SA . This should be a law. #GoodThingsGoodAdvice”
Jodie Collier advocated: “I believe that what could ultimately change our country for the better is building community centres at the heart of each community, offering night classes for those who never got to finish high school, practical courses for those who learn better by doing, allotments looked after by community members that can help feed the less fortunate and create a sense of purpose for those who had none. A community creche in the same building so that young vulnerable children have a safe place to play, games room for youths, a safe space for those who have been abused, afraid or alone, a place where older people can enjoy a meal with others and engage. Where people can be taught skills and never be unemployable. By creating a sense of Ubuntu, people will return to the old ways of looking out for each other and children, crime and violence can be eradicated by the sheer will of the communities and by starting in each community, as a collective the beautiful people of South Africa will rise again. If I could win this, I’d give it to my parents, my mom is looking after my 98 year old grandmother and their car no longer drives, also our family became a member richer when my previous little nephew was born so I’d love to help my parents get a car. Love good news guy, your commitment to uplifting the citizens of our rainbow nation always brings a lump in my throat. The world needs more Good news guys. #GoodThingsGoodAdvice”
Lydia Fox suggested: “#GoodThingsGoodAdvice Take out a retirement annuity for your children from age 1 with a premium of R 500.pm. give it to them for a 21st birthday present. They can then continue to pay it if they want to, or contribute to other savings and with the powers of compound interest, they might retire comfortably. And not have to rely on a government pension, thereby allowing the government to focus on other meaningful projects.”
Sylvana Anne Ellis submitted: “The country should take a holiday for a week from work, drama, violence, murder, robbery, theft. We should then just all braai and chill together, get to know each other, brainstorm ideas, explore each other’s view point’s, dreams fears hopes loves and losses then maybe we understand each other better. No religion or politics are allowed to be discussed at these braai’s. I’ve only ever wanted peace and LOVE for my country and it’s people, however it’s very hard to do that when all you’ve ever learnt has been hate, mistrust and lies. #GoodThingsGoodAdvice”
