The knowledge of how investment and the stock market works, is being shared with high schoolers throughout South Africa and a challenge to grow R 1 Million has been set!
Johannesburg, South Africa (23 September 2022) – Understanding how shares and investment opportunities work, is one of the life skills many go without ever getting the chance to learn. That is being changed, and high schoolers are being given the tools and understanding, to be financially included in the markets.
Across the country, school learners like Tshiamo Thabita Lesenyeho have been exposed to the possibilities and opportunities offered by investing in the stock market. This is being done through the JSE Investment Challenge which gives learners the chance to become financially literate.
The challenge teaches these high schoolers about how the economy functions and more importantly, how they can take part in it. Using an app on their phones, learners are starting to invest in their futures, tracking the markets daily and sharing their learning with families and communities to encourage and promote a culture of savings and investment in South Africa.
The knowledge they are gaining has the power of so much possibility! The challenge is being implemented in both rural and urban schools across the county.
For the benefit of learning, the challenge provides a virtual million rand to each team, and they are tasked with growing it into something greater. This gives them the opportunity to learn without the risk of losing their very own real money.
The challenge is run each year and inspired even more of South Africa’s youth, to take an interest in investing. With this educational opportunity at their fingertips, the future already looks brighter!
