I Love Diepsloot

I Love Diepsloot is a fashion brand using recycled materials to create designer handbags and other accessories in aid of job creation and charity.

 

I Love Diepsloot was started in 2012 and is a female owned co-operative of 31 people that has been operational since September 2012.

The brand sells a range of high fashion goods from recycled material. They focus on handbags, travel luggage, wine carriers and purses to name a few. The brand also has a range of woman’s and men’s clothing that is designed in a unique style with patterns that are traditional and proudly South African.

I Love Diepsloot employs around 50 woman at a time. Most of the woman come from the nearby informal settlement so the brand is creating jobs for woman who may not have had employment otherwise. The brand invests in skills development and creates sustainable income for all its employee’s.

The brand is saving the environment by using recycled plastic shopping packets, old billboard skins and rejected leather off-cuts that get reworked and refined.

“When upcycling is not an option, a fair trade approach is taken to ensure that the promotional and corporate wear ranges are as local as pap and sheba. From the cotton grown in Limpopo to the mill in Durban, I Love Diepsloot ensures that a local partner benefits from its business. ” 

I Love Diepsloot supports the non profit organisation Jacobs Well Villiages by using its profits to fund up to 40 special needs children education, which involves horse riding therapy, play therapy and art.

The Facebook page shared a video of how the ladies start their mornings each day. The woman sing beautifully and in unison everyday ensuring their team thrives together on a daily basis.
