When Koni Maliehe developed a passion for wine, she knew it would lead her on a path of success; starting as a small business, she got her break when Hollard gave away its huge advertising budget.

South Africa (24 July 2023) – Visibility as a small brand is vital to be seen by new customers. For Koni Maliehe, that visibility came in the way of a big advertising campaign, one fit for a major corporation. Her business, Koni Wines, was one of twelve small businesses selected for Hollard’s “Big Ads for Small Business” campaign.

Koni left the corporate world, cashed in her life savings and started a wine business. The field ignited her passion and curiosity, both worthy reasons to start anew. Armed with her hard work and determination, she just needed a boost to get her business seen by potential clients.

The “Big Ads for Small Business” campaign significantly boosted her brand’s visibility, leading to local opportunities and export contracts. The success of Koni Wines serves as an inspiring example for aspiring entrepreneurs and highlights the impact a helping hand can have on a growing business.

Hollard, a leading insurance company, launched its campaign called “Big Ads for Small Business” to support small businesses hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. The innovative campaign involved giving away Hollard’s own ad space to these businesses, boosting their visibility and increasing their revenue.

Of the 300 submissions for this campaign, twelve small businesses were selected. Through the vetting process, it was clear these businesses would be able to upscale effectively with the increased attention from the ads. Not only did this campaign ensure each business’s growth, but it also amplified Hollard’s identity as a company committed to creating better futures – and succeeding!

The success of the Big Ads for Small Business campaign highlights the power of innovative solutions and strategic thinking, proving that a win-win impact can be achieved by supporting small businesses and strengthening brand commitment.

Koni shares her story and her pride in her business below. Cheers, Koni.
