The city of Joburg released a statement this morning explain that services are likely to be affected at all of the Licensing and Testing Stations in Johannesburg this week.

“This is because more than 70 staff members had been suspended for alleged corruption, these include Licensing offices in Midrand, Randburg, Marlboro, Roodepoort, Langlaagte and Martindale.”

“The employees were given letters of intention to suspend on the 13 January 2017 and had until the 17 January 2017 to show reasons as to why they shouldn’t be suspended. Thereafter, the suspension notices were issued.”

“Temporary staff will be used to fill vacancies quickly where it is possible.”

The city have asked Johannesburg residents to be patient whilst that are working towards a corruption free city.

Authorities in Gauteng are cracking the whip on crime with a campaign to combat all misconduct and law-breaking, which includes internal corruption.

“Crime combatting operations continue in Gauteng beyond the recent festive season, with intelligence driven operations yielding more than 2420 arrests since Monday, January 16,” police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said.

Earlier this year ‘The Hawks’ arrested four licensing department cashiers for alleged fraud, Johannesburg metro police said on Tuesday.

They were arrested at the Sandton licensing department and the Martindale bulk licensing department, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said. The three men and one woman would face internal charges in addition to the criminal charges.
