A community have rallied together to assist the Midrand SPCA after another robbery took place on the property.

Johannesburg, South Africa – The Midrand SPCA is committed to the charter of helping animals in need and being a voice for those who do not have one!

As a registered Non-Profit Organization, they do not receive government funding and rely entirely on the generosity of corporate companies and members of the public to ensure that their much-needed services can be continued in the future.

But the Midrand SPCA has been plagued by a number of criminal activities over the past two years, and the team are at their wit’s end as they simply do not have the funds to implement further security measures.

Last night (26 March) between 21:30 and 22:00, trespassers were noted on the property again. The alarm was raised by the staff, and they had a swift response from their security company, Ria Sebetsa, as well as the SAPS, and many CPF members who all came to their aid.

“With our hearts sitting in our throats, we started walking around to assess the damage, while others searched around for the thieves. We found that the palisade fencing had been removed at a section of our premises and some of our wheelie bins containing food, cat litter and toys had been removed from one wendy house.

Our team walked the premises to check that no other damage or theft had occurred and that our animals were all accounted for and unharmed. Fortunately, although a bit shaken, our staff member was unharmed.”

This morning, it was discovered that these thieves returned to the premises sometime during the night and then proceeded to break open their blanket room and steal some blankets. But, this was not enough for them, and sadly they cut the locks on one of their kennel blocks and took one of the dogs.

Our team is devastated and we feel defeated! We have worked tirelessly over the past year to bring many improvements to our society yet we have been plagued by criminal activity! Through the assistance of the public, we enclosed three kennel blocks yet now other kennels get targeted!

We simply do not have the funds to spend on securing the premises any further! We really need the public to stand by us during these tough times and help us protect our animals, staff and premises for we fear that this will only get worse…..

The Midrand branch of the SPCA took to Facebook to share their story and beg the public and private sector for help.

“Please come forward and assist our society. We have so many needs that this mountain is impossible to climb on our own, but we know that with the support of the public, we can get over these struggles!

We need more floodlights around the property; we need to enclose the premises with a brick wall, possibly install electric fencing or other parameter security measures, security gates, proper storage buildings….. the list feels impossible right now.

If anyone works in the construction, security or electrical field, that can assist in or part of our needs; this would be greatly appreciated as we need all the help we can get right now!”

Hundreds of community members immediately started sharing and engaging with the post offering donations and assistance for the incredible organisation but more is needed to help them.

Contributions towards helping them take on this mammoth task can be made into their account:
