FlySaFair has been rated as the most on-time airline in South Africa… again!
On-time performance (OTP) of airlines in South Africa is trending up, and passengers are reaping the rewards of more reliable and prompt air travel. Delays at airports also affect an airline’s operational efficiency and bottom line. So better OTP performance is another way to keep costs down and these savings can ultimately be passed on to the consumer.
And FlySaFair have scored a 94% best in class OTP for 2018.
“The results are in and we’re proud to announce that 94% of FlySafair’s flights left on time in 2018. With an A+ score like this, we’ve once again earned our spot as SA’s most punctual airline.
It goes to show that when you love flying as much as we do, it’s easy to pass with flying colours.”
OTP is a globally measured standard that reflects an airline’s adherence to their own published schedules. This is traditionally measured by the airports themselves, rather than airlines, to counter any potential bias and misreporting. OTP is measured as within 15 minutes of scheduled departure times. The 15-min window is to allow for air traffic congestion which is beyond the airline’s control, and can be made up in flying time.
In South Africa, the recording of these time scores is managed by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), in line with the International Airlines Transport Association (IATA) standard benchmarks, and across the country’s three major airports – OR Tambo, Cape Town International and King Shaka in Durban. ACSA calls OTP “the primary internationally accepted standard” for measuring airport operational efficiency.
FlySafair was also named Aircraft Operator of the Year at the South African Civil Aviation Excellence Awards held at The Galleria in Sandton on November 16 2018.
FlySafair CEO, Elmar Conradie, was full of praise for the high-performing team at FlySafair, saying that awards and achievements of this caliber are only possible when each and every team member is committed to excellence in everything they do.
“I’m privileged to work with such an outstanding group of people – well done to the entire team,” he said.
