After 23 years the shopping centre is getting a massive facelift, bringing 450 stores and a world of opportunity to the Fourways neighbourhood!
Fourways, South Africa – It’s taken nearly four years, and the renovations have been quite confusing (as we haven’t been able to see behind the proverbial curtain), but the end result is going to be well worth the wait and have an enormous positive impact on property prices in the area!
The greater Fourways area has recently been named as the fastest-developing commercial and residential hub in northern Sandton, with lots of construction taking place across the area over the past few years… and now the wait is finally over for one anticipated section as the new impressive Mega-Mall is set to open on the 22 August 2019!
The Good Things Guy team got a sneak peek of the new extensions and were completely blown away with the size, look and flow of the new shopping centre!
“Just did an exclusive walk-through of the new Fourways Mall & let me tell you, our community has no idea how amazing this place is going to be when it opens in a few weeks time. They have been building the biggest and most beautiful shopping centre, right in our very own backyard. It flows and links and totally makes sense.
Remember when we all complained about the upgrades to the highway? And then totally forgot about the inconvenience when they were all completed and we suddenly had two more lanes to use? Well, Fourways Mall is about to add 350 of the top stores to our own backyards, and the way the new mall has been designed is going to blow your mind.
It’s taken some time to get there… but I promise you the effort they have put in is going to be a massive reward for us and our community!”
Fourways Mall was originally built 23 years ago and has hardly seen an update in two decades, but with the recent development, the shopping centre will expand from the original 90,000m² to 192,000m², making it the second largest mall in the country – and the largest in the Gauteng province!
The expansion used the area’s existing footprint but joined the existing mall with the ‘Game Centre’ as well as the smaller ‘Fourways View’ centre. The new build has been completely cordoned off, so the shape and flow have been a bit of a mystery, but once you see it, you will realise it totally makes sense! And the design is actually quite smart – it now has the most majestic centre-court area, as big as a rugby field, spanning four levels high that brings the entire shopping centre together.
“We haven’t seen the final map yet, but walking from one side to the other feels almost like a big circle which flows around the ‘main centre court’ and is connected by passages which all flow back to the centre.
It’s quite unreal how they have built something so massive right under our noses.”
The centre will now boast 52 entrance points to the new mall – both vehicle and pedestrian – but the crazy thing is you will still be able to use the ‘same parking area’ as you did in the past because of the incredible flow and design! The new mall will also host 450 of the top local and international stores ranging from H&M, LC Waikiki, Cotton On, Nespresso, Woolworths and a concept Edgars store that will see the brand bringing retail in South Africa into the twenty-first century.
In addition to the expansion project, the interior of the existing Fourways Mall has also got a significant facelift during the refurbishment to match the new development. The effect will be the transformation of the look and feel into one seamless glistening new shopping centre that you will not recognise!
They have also created the most incredible underground taxi-terminal which will take the congestion off William Nicol while giving Fourways commuters a safe space to catch taxis, while also getting some shopping done (the terminal has it’s own retail compliment with select banks and food outlets).
“The taxi-terminal feels like a mini Grand Central Station; it’s such a cool concept and something the Fourways area definitely needed.”
The master plan for Fourways Mall will complement plans by the local council to position the Fourways area as a new Central Business District (CBD). The project will create a fantastic new central hub using the existing critical mass within the Fourways node, which has been identified as one of the fastest growing and populated areas in Johannesburg. R400 million has been spent on the road upgrades in the area to support the massive undertaking, and to assist in any foreseen traffic congestion.
The refurbishment and expansion project has taken nearly four years to complete but the new upgraded centre will be something to marvel at and a gem for the Fourways area!
The new mall will officially open on the 22 August 2019, so mark the date down in your diaries and get ready to be blown away and pleasantly surprised!
