The Sea Vista community has been impoverished for some time but thanks to a new library, their hopes and dreams for the future are looking much brighter

Kouga Wind Farm celebrated Global Wind Day 2018 with the announcement that its R4-million custom-built library and IT centre in the impoverished Sea Vista community in St Francis Bay was on track to open in October.

The Wind Farm set up an agreement with the South African Energy Department to give a portion of their revenue back to the surrounding communities to help uplift the area.

The library is one of many sustainable development projects run by the wind farm in the communities within its geographic footprint in the Kouga region since launching in 2015.

Inspecting the progress on the project are community members (from left in title image) Ragel Goeda, Babalwa Sahluko and Nozuko Ntshota, who have benefited from another of the wind farm’s community projects – the Rainmakers women empowerment programme.

The seven-month programme has seen groups of women from the Sea Vista, Umzamowethu, KwaNomzamo and Kruisfontein communities undergoing specific skills development and business training, to equip them to identify and implement impactful upliftment projects in their communities.

The community has also been given a local creche so that the children are given good foundations to their future education. The creche was placed within the community so that the children would not have to travel to get an education.

You can watch the community’s reaction below.
