Dotsure.co.za collects over one Tonne of pet food for SPCA and ODIN during International pet week.

South Africa – Dotsure.co.za, the leading pet insurance provider in South Africa, together with their holding company, Badger Holdings, proudly celebrated International Pet Week, from 6 to 12 May 2019, at their George office in the beautiful Garden Route by collaboratively collecting pet food and monetary donations for the Garden Route SPCA and Oudtshoorn Dogs in Need (ODIN).

Employees were encouraged to support the initiative by donating dog and cat food throughout the week. On Friday 10 May 2019, with the encouragement of a joyful employee in a dog mascot costume, employees also donated monetary funds to the cause.

“Animal welfare is at the heart of what we do, and we believe it is our responsibility as a pet insurer to give back to shelter animals in need,” says dotsure.co.za managing director David Roache.

A total of 94 bags and cans of pet food were collected with over R3,700 in monetary donations. The funds were used to buy more pet food, which resulted in over 1.1 tonnes of pet food being delivered to the Garden Route SPCA and ODIN respectively on Friday 17 May 2019.

According to the Central California SPCA in the USA, dogs should eat at least twice a day. Typically, a dog eats ¼ cup to 2 cups of food per day, depending on the size of the dog. Similar to dogs, cats should also eat twice a day. They require a ¼ cup of food per feeding, so that’s a ½ cup of food per day. The dotsure.co.za donation equates to almost 10,000 meals, which means over 160 shelter pets at The Garden Route SPCA and ODIN will have food for the next month.

dotsure.co.za shows its commitment to animal welfare by supporting various animal-related organisations such as the Animal Anti-Cruelty League, SPCA, as well as local animal shelters. dotsure.co.za also proudly hosts the annual Polar Bear Plunge in Victoria Bay on the last Saturday of July, where blankets are donated to these organisations and others to help shelter animals (and humans) in need. Every purchase counts, too. When a customer takes out a pet policy with dotsure.co.za, they feed a hungry shelter pet at the AACL for a month.

International Pet Week started in America, and it is always observed in the first full week of May. Created in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), International Pet Week is dedicated to celebrating pets all over the world that enrich our lives every day and to encourage responsible pet care.

According to Roache, “All pets deserve access to the nutrition they need to thrive, no matter what their circumstances. We proudly celebrated International Pet Week intending to make a positive difference to the lives of shelter pets waiting for their forever homes.”
