Profmed is giving young doctors a healthy start with 12 months of free medical aid, supporting the heroes who support us.

South Africa (10 June 2025) – Young doctors coming up in their chosen medical fields have a lot to balance. They work long hours, often for very little, and commit themselves wholeheartedly to saving others. In an effort to make things easier for these heroes, Profmed has launched a generous campaign to support young doctors for the first year of their careers, giving them 12 months of free medical aid.

This incredible campaign has been created to boost the next generation of medical professionals through the newly established finDR platform.

finDR is South Africa’s first digital locum marketplace designed with young doctors, dentists, and healthcare practices in mind. The simple, intuitive platform enables practitioners to build profiles, upload their credentials, and connect directly with clinics and practices that need support, helping connect doctors to employment. It’s bridging the gap between talented, often unemployed professionals and the communities that need them.

Adding to this unique offering, Profmed announced a 12-month free medical aid offer for young, qualified doctors and dentists under the age of 30 years, who have completed their community service in the past two years and are either unemployed or have only been employed within the last six months.

“This is about more than just medical aid,” says Profmed CEO Craig Comrie. “It’s about making sure our young healthcare professionals don’t fall through the cracks as they take their first steps into a demanding but vital career. We’ve heard from far too many doctors who, after years of study and community service, are left without work, income, or even the ability to access private healthcare. That’s unacceptable, and it’s something we’re stepping in to change.”

The 12-month free medical aid offer follows the initial rollout of finDR, which provided the first 500 young doctors who signed up with six months of free coverage. With this new campaign, Profmed is expanding its support and doubling down on its commitment to the country’s young professionals.

“The response to finDR has been phenomenal,” adds Comrie. “But the need is even greater than we anticipated. Over 800 qualified doctors have already joined the platform, proving how urgently it’s needed. This offer is our way of saying: you matter. Your career matters. And we’re here to help you take that next step, securely and with dignity.”

In a country where we desperately need young doctors to stay the course and bolster our medical system, providing them with the tools to make that happen is essential. It is Profmed’s continued commitment to these young doctors that is making a major difference and giving them one less thing to worry about.

Doctors and dentists who meet the criteria are encouraged to register via the finDR platform, where they will also gain access to curated job opportunities, mentorship, and a community of professionals committed to making a difference.
