This new free App shows the best fuel prices, the closest fuel stations and displays cashback from fuel rewards programs!

Western Cape, South Africa (22 September 2022) – A South African has developed a free App that helps users find the best value when filling up their cars.

Rob Gardner created the App to help South Africans navigate the rising fuel costs, and hopefully save a buck in the process.

“I’m a numbers guy but I was never really aware of what the rewards actually amounted to. Some of the rewards programs are notoriously hard to decode, so I thought it would be a good idea to have all the calculations done in one place and displayed in a simple result. I worked out I was sometimes getting less back in rewards than what it cost in fuel driving to a specific fuel station – the app does all the sums for you and just tells you where to go and what rewards program to use if you have several,” Gardner explained to Good Things Guy.

The app is called myTank and lets users set their tank size, fuel type, select the rewards programs they use, configure the tiers and then get a simple but accurate estimate of the cashback they can expect when filling up at each service station.

It also calculates the cost of driving to each service station so the user can effectively see the best value place/s to fill up. Fuel stations – should they wish to subscribe – can set all their details, ie amenities, facilities, ATMs, restaurants, loadshedding status and diesel price as well as advertise their specials and promotions.

“I initially created the App to focus on the diesel price. I had no idea how much the price of diesel varied, often as much as R1 per litre within a small area… but until more fuel stations jump on board and set their price the apps focus is more on the rewards side.”

There is an official android app on the “PlayStore” or users can access the web app.
