The Good Things Guy team attended the ‘Africa Shared Value Summit’ where we learned all about the Sustainable Development Goals that will transform the world!
The UN launched the Sustainable Development Goals in September 2015 as an effect tool to combat 17 prominent social issues. This is also known as the Global Goals campaign.
The concept is for every single person to do their part in working towards these goals for change. For the goals to be achieved the government, the private sector, civil society and individuals need to implement change. The hope is that by 2030 these goals will have made real and global change!
How it works is that someone can choose their goal or multiple goals and work towards them in every way they can. The UN website has easy steps to do so, they call it their “Lazy persons guide to saving the world”.
There are 17 goals to choose from.
- No Poverty
- Zero Hunger
- Good Health and Well-Being
- Quality Education
- Gender Equality
- Clean Water and Sanitation
- Affordable and Clean Energy
- Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- Reduced Inequalities
- Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Responsible Consumption and Production
- Climate Action
- Life below Water
- Life on Land
- Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
- Partnership for the Goals
I personally pledged to work towards No Poverty, Gender Equality and Climate Action. I feel these three are big enough that they can cover multiple other goals too! Like working towards No Poverty will also lead to working on Zero Hunger and Quality Education.
The Africa Shared value summit focused on these goals, using them to better business and empower Africa.
