Saffron’s Garden Plant Club – a first of its kind “mystery box” to launch in South Africa and something so unique and cool!

Western Cape, South Africa (11 November 2020) – Safely in the back of a courier van making its way across South Africa sits a living beauty. Lovingly packed alongside a selection of gifts and accessories, a happy little house plant is on its way to its future family.

It has never met its new family, but it knows it will be loved because it’s going to a member of Saffron’s Garden Plant Club.

Saffron de la Rouviere, a plant-crazed Capetonian, has taken advantage of South Africa’s new willingness to shop online and the wellness benefits of plants, by turning her plant hobby into an exceptional new business. The first of its kind to launch in SA and something so unique and cool – it’s a monthly mystery plant box subscription from Saffron’s Garden, a business started in 2019 with the purpose of growing a national community of house plant lovers.

Saffron’s Garden Plant Club is a monthly mystery box subscription with hundreds of members all across South Africa. Members never know what they’ll get in the mystery box that gets delivered to them, but they know they’ll love the plant and related gifts because each month’s mystery is lovingly crafted by Saffron to deliver surprise and delight to each member.

Saffron herself is completely plant-obsessed with over 400 plants covering her entire house and office, and every Friday she dances with her plants to make them happy and shares the videos with her thousands-strong Instagram community to make them happy too.

The account @saffronsgarden started as a way for Saffron to share her love for plants but has turned into a beautiful community of plant lovers, and the biggest driver of new mystery box members.

“The community of plant lovers across South Africa is so incredible and makes being a plant lover so much better. That I’ve been able to build a business that supports and grows this community is just a dream come true” says de la Rouviere. “Plants make people happy, and everyone loves a surprise which makes the mystery boxes such a great product.”

Studies have shown plants: reduce stress and fatigue; boost concentration, productivity and mood; clean indoor air by absorbing toxins, increasing humidity and producing oxygen; and so much more. With all of these benefits contributing positively to the wellbeing of people, it’s no wonder more people are embracing house plants and signing up to a subscription service like this.

As the number of members grows into the hundreds, de la Rouviere’s passion project is rapidly becoming a key to the future of the house plant industry. “Having figured out how to safely deliver plants across the country means we can broaden the house plant buying market which in turn means more support for plant growers and all the small businesses that create products for the industry” she says.

Saffron doesn’t have specific business goals in mind but is determined to grow and support the plant community in South Africa, and as long as there are plant club members, she’ll pour all her energy into making the mystery boxes as exciting and valuable as possible.

The subscription costs R450.00 a month, and Saffron’s promise is to always have way more value-packed into the box, delivered straight to your house or office. If house plants are your thing, or you just want more happiness in your life, visit www.saffronsgarden.com and sign up. With the festive season around the corner, a subscription to Saffron’s Garden Plant Club makes for a very unique gift!
