Therese Quobela made her own history by successfully completing her degree in record time and going on to enter a typically male-dominated field; we can see that she is thriving in this new phase of her training.

South Africa (19 June 2023) – Keen to make her mark, Therese Quobela chose to study engineering and with the support of Transnet, completed her degree in record time! She shows that women are just as capable when joining male-dominated fields.

Therese Qhobela has always loved a challenge and when it came to selecting her path, she chose engineering. She wanted to push herself, learn complex skills and create her own history, by entering a typically male-dominated field.

When she started looking towards doing her studies, she found out about the Transnet Engineering Development Programme. She applied and was successful. The programme covered her tuition and accommodation for a period of two years, giving her the peace of mind to focus solely on her studies. Therese achieved what she set out to do and more; she completed her three-year degree, in just two years!

Transnet, South Africa’s state-owned transport and logistics company, is making a difference by investing in programmes that empower individuals and small businesses and contribute to society. Their engineering development programme funds students to study engineering, who later join Transnet as engineers in training.

Therese is one of these engineers in training today and advises South African students to never lose sight of their dreams, to believe in their worth, to work hard, and to seize every opportunity that comes their way. Transnet’s initiative empowers individuals like Therese, fostering growth and positive change in South Africa.

Therese shares her story below. She just shines with pride in her accomplishments, and we can see how much she loves what she is doing.
