UberNam will soon be available in certain areas of Johannesburg and Cape Town and across Durban with trips starting from only R19!

Johannesburg, South Africa (29 November 2020) – Whether you need to go buy food, visit a friend or family member or get to the bus stop, Uber has created a more affordable pickup option but with the same safety standards.

UberNam will soon be available in selected areas in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, as the ride-hailing company tests a new affordable option for South Africans, but Uber aims to expand across the entire country eventually.

This option will feature hatchbacks which are generally more affordable to maintain and run. Uber’s other options remain, such as UberX, Uber Black and UberVAN, allowing riders a wider range of choice when using the Uber application.

“We are aware trends have changed across South Africa, and consumers are more price sensitive. In these difficult times, we want to ensure we deliver more affordable options with the same door-to-door safety standards while unlocking further earning opportunities for driver-partners,” Uber’s general manager for Sub Saharan Africa, Frans Hiemstra explains.

“As a technology company, data is in our DNA. We have the ability to look at the economics in each city and pilot a wide range of new products and features to provide the best possible service to South Africans. We use this approach when introducing something new to ensure the marketplace remains healthy and balanced. For example, we have launched similar low-cost solutions in other markets, like Kenya- two years later, it has helped grow the market and helped provide consumers with more choice.”

UberNam will soon be available in certain areas of Johannesburg and Cape Town and across Durban with trips starting from only R19!

Simply open the Uber app and request UberNam to get affordable rides to and from the areas below.
