How upcycled solar powered schoolbags are transforms the lives of many South Africans kids!

Over 10 000 “Repurpose schoolbags” have been handed over to kids around the country, giving them dignity by day and a light to study at night!

The Repurpose Schoolbag is seamlessly designed for dignity, and durability. By harnessing wearable solar technology which charges during the day, at night, this can be easily detached from the bag and turns into lantern to enable study.

Each bag is made entirely from PVC billboards and by repurposing them into a meaningful use, we ensure the preservation of the environment.

“Repurpose Schoolbags is a brand innovated and manufactured for Rethaka Foundation based in South Africa. Since 2013 we have been on a mission to ensure access to education really happens for children who have to thrive even with limited resources at hand.

Our work demands that we have an ethical imagination: having the ambition to envision a world where everyone has dignity while having the humility to work everyday to see make this our reality. “

From carrying their books in a plastic bag or having no schoolbag at all, by giving a child a Repurpose Schoolbag, you are helping to make a change to that child’s life by encouraging that child to commit to staying in school and because every Repurpose Schoolbag is fitted with a portable solar panel that turns into desk lamp providing up to 12 hours of light for reading & doing homework.
