As predicted, it snowed in Lesotho last night; Afriski Mountain Resort received a dusting, and it is cause for great excitement amongst winter fans.

Lesotho (01 June 2021) – As the weather teams predicted, it snowed last night in Lesotho. This was the second snow of the winter season so far. It was predicted that a total of 50cm would make landfall.

Last month Afriski Mountain Resort shared their images showing the first snow of the season (which you can see here). This next snow is predicted to be much thicker than the first.

The resort had reported around 10cm of snow on the 30th of April. Some areas expecting as little as 30cm of snow with a possibility of 50cm! The snowfall wasn’t as much as predicted but with a few more days of cold weather, the snow may even stick to the ground for a while.

The resort is currently closed but will be opening in two weeks time for their winter tourist season. For now, roads leading to the resort are closed to all vehicles, including 4x4s, and the team urges that it is not safe for vehicles to attempt driving the route until the ice has cleared later in the day.

“Most of Moteng Pass is rock solid frozen. Therefore the pass is CLOSED to all class vehicles as even 4x4s without chains will not be able to go down safely.”

Take a look at the snowfall below.
