Greenpop, a local charity dedicated to reforesting Southern Africa, celebrated their 10th birthday as well as arbour month by planting more trees.
Cape Town, South Africa (02 September 2020) – Yesterday (Spring Day), Greenpop celebrated its 10th birthday. The team had hoped for a party but made do with an email to all their fans and followers. Currently, the goal is to maintain their projects from the last 10 years as the world shifts.
They have been working on reforesting a space of land through the gifted donations of others. It started with the goal of planting 1000 trees but has grown into a massive birthday wish to plant 500,000 trees in Southern Africa.
“10 Years ago, in our little inner-city Cape Town apartment, we started a project to plant 1000 trees and make protecting our planet fun. It was a crazy time – we did reverse graffiti activations, flash mob cycling through the city, mass planting days, got an intern who made a desk on our sofa, found ourselves holding board meetings in the bedroom, learned a million lessons and grew organically into a proper organisation.
Today we have a real office, staff, systems and diverse restoration projects around Southern Africa… but we’re still committed to the same goal of helping people get excited about protecting our planet. As Greenpop turns 10 today, I believe that HOPE and collective action is more important than ever.”
They have a few ideas on how you can help make their 10th birthday wish come true and help them reach 500,000 trees by 2025. Aside from their 10th birthday, it is also national arbour week this week and arbour month too.
“Plant a tree for the year 2020, for your granny or grandpa, for the friends you’ve missed during lockdown, to bring a smile (behind a mask), for future generations, for biodiversity, for green jobs, for yourself, for fun, for Africa, for Greenpop’s birthday, for our collective resilience!
“It’s a Treevolution. And we’re all part of it!”
“Plant your Arbour Month tree today here – help us make our birthday wish come true!
Here’s to another decade of planting HOPE!
