South Africa is blessed with some adorable animals, including lesser bushbabies, but they are at risk due to habitat loss and need our support.
Johannesburg, South Africa (02 March 2021) – Every time we get sent a picture of a new rescue at the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital, we are blown away by the diversity of cute animals found in the suburbs of South Africa.
We spend so much time living urban lives; we forget that the wild world inhabits our surroundings, even beyond our national parks. Sure the Hadeda has become a backing track for the South African lifestyle, but seeing rescues of birds, bats, and more is always a great reminder that there is so much out there, even in our own backyards.
The latest rescues at the veterinary hospital are three tiny lesser bushbabies. There is a small population of them in the North of Johannesburg. An organisation called ‘Save the Fourways Bushbabies‘ take on massive development projects to help protect what little space they have left. Until there is a safe space for these bushbabies, we can expect to see rescues landing up at the wildlife veterinary hospital.
Thankfully, the staff know how to support these tiny little creatures and how to rehabilitate them before releasing them back into the wild.
“We currently have 3 young Lesser bushbabies (Galago moholi) in our care. They are all on a special milk formula and, depending on their age, they’re being introduced to additional food items. As their appetites grow, the cost of incorporating insects and other bushbaby delicacies grows too! Currently, on an optimum diet, #OneMeal costs R31 for all 3! We’d love it if you’d sponsor their next meal.”
The Johannesburg Wildlife Vet’s feeding programme is called “One Meal“, and it allows the public to support their various rescues by paying for one meal. Below are the various payment options for the Wildlife Vet; they rely on donations, so if you can, you can donate through the methods below.
