The transformation of Bux – a neglected pup from an informal settlement – is proof that love truly does heal all wounds.
Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa (02 November 2020) – Mandy Hoffmann-Jensen – an avid dog lover and animal rescuer – posted the desperate plea on the 28th of October to find “Bux” a forever home, and within two days had moved the pup in with his new mom and dad.
But the post did so much more as social media users were reminded that love truly does heal all wounds, but our job is not done just yet.
“Bux, you stole our hearts! Today is a happy day to remember. Bux – as we named him from an informal settlement in Shongweni.”
Little children informed Mandy about Bux on the 2nd October 2020, and when she went and found Bux, his condition was so dire that she used social media to ask for help as she knew what expenses were involved and could not afford to do this alone without public support.
Well, Mandy and her incredible team got everything they asked for and so much more.
“Thank you to everyone that has helped with vet bills, food, and moral support. A big thank you to Animal lodge in Peacevale – Kay Sargent – who offered to give Bux his own little house for as long as he needed it.”
Bux arrived at Hillcrest Vet for a check-up and was diagnosed with dehydration, undernourishment and Billary. The poor had no muscle, just skin over his little bones. Bux had his first night out of the barrel he had spent most of his life in at the Vet just as a precaution but the next day Mandy fetched Bux and took him to her “Animal Lodge”.
Mandy had to carry little Bux for three days as he was too weak and would not walk. They didn’t know if he would actually make it.
After all the meds and the best meals he had ever had, the third day would be the day that they knew there was no stopping him.
“Bux went from strength to strength, and every day was something new! He absolutely loved the grass, the freedom… he loved to be loved and give love. And mostly the freedom to run! He is the most loyal, loving fur baby.”
Mandy put the call out to get him a home, and within two days, his forever parents officially adopted him!
“Well, Bux now named Harry has found his forever home! Thank you again for everyone’s support and to his new mom and dad and his family of cats, chickens and geese.
He will be loved. He can sleep inside. He can cuddle on the couch and watch TV.”
Mandy recalls dropping him off and how funny it was to watch his interest with the TV.
“That was funny; he had never seen a TV before his head turned from side to side.”
But our job is not done yet! There are so many animals who find themselves in this position all around South Africa. And this story is a reminder that a little bit of love can go a long way… and heal all wounds.
