Continued good rainfall in the Western Cape has seen Cape Town dam levels reach more than 100%.
Cape Town, South Africa (30 August 2021) – The City of Cape Town said the dams from which it takes its water supply have surpassed the 100% mark.
Good rain over the past weekend saw levels reaching 101.7 percent.
“The average dam level for dams in the Western Cape has increased to 81.42% (2020: 71.7%). The latest levels for dams providing water to the City of Cape Town, are 101.7% (2020: 90.6%),” Anton Bredell, MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape said
Bredell says despite the good rainfall and increased dam levels, citizens across the province are urged to continue using water sparingly.
“The resource will always be under pressure and we need to continue with the good practices we have seen.”
The weather outlook for the province for the week that lies ahead, sees continue cold weather with some scattered rain predicted for the Garden Route during the week. The South African Weather Service is predicting two cold fronts, on Monday afternoon and on Friday, with some more rain expected on the weekend

- Bergriver Dam 101% full this week (2020: 100%. Last week: 100%).
- Theewaterskloof dam – 104% full this week (2020: 87%. Last week: 102%)
- Clanwilliam Dam 99.9%. (2020: 100%. Last week: 100%).
