Capetonians are rejoicing at the amount of rain they are currently receiving and flooding social media with images and videos of the all the water.
May and June have been a really good for early season rain in the Western Cape region with the rain . It has steadily and slowly filling up the dams after the long drought.
At the end of last week, dam levels were 44% full overall with one of the biggest dams – Theewaterskloof – at 31%.
Many videos have been shared on social media over the weekend but one in particular has been trending at the top of the charts.
A video of a storm water drain over-flowing in the streets of Cape Town city is giving Capetonians (and South Africans) hope that this year’s rainy season may bring an end to the drought.
“It’s an overflow of rain water… this will occur less as the drainage systems flush out debris and blockages caused from 3 years of drought. The water will find its way into drainage elsewhere and at the end of the day jojos, and dams are filing up with all the rain,” Brett Mario Correia commented.
