Cape White Eye tiny bird

A tiny bird has been reunited with his mom after surviving a tree felling and a 25km journey.

We love happy endings! The Garden Route Birds Facebook page shared a story about the little bird who was found by Treepro in Plett.

Treepro is a highly specialised arbori-cultural company specialising in the felling of problematic trees, land clearing and indigenous timber harvesting. They found this tiny Cape white-eye dangling off the back of one of their crane trucks.

“He had survived falling out of tree, didn’t get crushed by the timber grab when loaded onto a truck, travelled 25kms on the back of an open truck, then managed to not get pulverised by the tractor also loaded on the back of the truck, and he must have been without Mom for at least a day.”

They kindly took him back to his tree where Mom found him within seconds and was frantically flying within inches of their heads.

They tied the nest high back in tree (while under constant parental supervision) and Mom then immediately fed him two butterflies! They decided to name him “Lucky”, and we hope Lucky has a very long, very lucky life.
