A new social media challenge has launched, and it could be the one that makes the most difference around the world. This is how it works…

Johannesburg, South Africa – Social Media challenges have been happening for some time and are used as a way to bring awareness to causes. In the past, there has been the ALS Bucket Challenge which was launched in 2014 and was used to collect funds for ALS which led to $115 million being raised for the cause in 2014.

There is also Movember, which isn’t a social media challenge; it’s a real-life challenge that takes place during November and encourages men to grow their moustaches for men’s health awareness. It was launched in 2003 and is still going strong.

There have been many challenges that have worked to raise awareness and funds and had significant success but now there is a new one, and all it is doing is saving the planet and cleaning up the environment.

The challenge is to find a space of land that is cluttered by litter, take a photo standing in front of the mess and then spend as much time as it takes to clear and clean up the area. Once you have finished, stand in front of the space with all the bags of rubbish you have collected and smile with pride.

We love this challenge idea and hope it will be picked up here in South Africa. Many people have already taken up the challenge all over the world. Anyone in South Africa willing to take up the social media challenge? Let us know in the comment section or post your pictures there and challenge others.

Here are some people’s challenge photos.
