inland

Stefan Graunke launched the Coastal Ghost Coastline Cleanup Project and swept across the country cleaning 50 beaches, now his sights are set inland!

Gauteng, South Africa – Stefan Graunke launched the Coastal Ghost Coastline Cleanup Project in January of this year. Starting in Richards Bay on the 21 of February 2019, the project ended in Port Nolloth on the west coast.

The goal was to clean 50 beaches along the way, educating the communities at each stop.

“We will be visiting approximately 50 beaches along the coast of South Africa, connecting with communities in the surrounds and raising awareness on the state of trash in our coastal waters.”

Myself and my 3 border collies along with a support crew will be touring the coastline in a goal to clean up as many beaches as possible. I would love it if I could have the opportunity to share my dreams with many, and tell my story of how I got here and where I am going with this cleanup project.”

Stefan hoped to inspire everyone to join him and his dogs along the journey. It was a success, and many people joined him along the way.

“We have one planet and water is the most important element in maintaining a healthy life. We want to make sure our foot prints reverse some of the damage that has been done.”

Now, Stefan has set his sights inland. Stefan joined other cleanup groups to tackle the horrific pollution building up in the rivers that eventually reach the ocean.

The most recent focus, the Jukskei in the North of Johannesburg. Stefan shared the before and after video of the work they did on the Costal Ghost Facebook page. You can follow his continued adventures on the Facebook page here.
