Classroom Celebrity

Daisy the Rhino has a story that’s touched hearts around the world, including a classroom in Australia where she took on celebrity status!

Australia (08 June, 2023)—Daisy the orphan rhino has a Disney-worthy story. Once a calf in distress, the young rhino is now a symbol of hope for rhino rescuers and conservationists around the world, including the rhino-heroes-to-be.

In fact, Daisy is so loved around the world, she adorns blankets made from volunteers that hail from all around it.

Taking her celebrity status a little further, Daisy recently earned the spotlight at a classroom in Australia after a little student named Zarja (5) took to draw the rhino and share her story with the class. Where most 5-year-olds might not have rhino conservation front of mind (as opposed to other important 5-year-old matters) Zarja did.

People agreed that Daisy’s classroom celebrity moment was something special, nodding to the fact that the new generation of rhino rescuers is already in the making.

If you haven’t encountered Daisy’s story yet, the little rhino was rescued when she was just 12 hours old in December 2021. Initially, she was discovered by the SANParks team in the Kruger before being sent to the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary team. Daisy had been found unable to stand and with her umbilical cord still attached. The little orphan needed a lot of care, which is exactly what her rescuers provided.

Later on, she befriended another orphan, a tiny zebra named Modjadji. Before long, the two became as thick as thieves and the plot to a Disney movie that needs to happen.

And yes, Modjadji was also featured in Daisy’s classroom celebrity moment.

When little leaders start turning their minds to stories like this, we’re reminded of how much hope is folded in the future!
