This adorable survivor, who was rescued from the clutches of poachers as a mere six-hour-old calf, has defied great odds. This week, she turned three and grows stronger every day!

Mpumalanga, South Africa (15 December 2024) – A little rhino, affectionately named Diasy, with the biggest fighting spirit, turned three this week! After surviving great odds at the hands of relentless poachers, this marks a heartfelt milestone for a calf who had one of the most complicated ICU cases at Care for Wildlife Rhino Sanctuary.

The young soldier is as tough as she looks! She was rescued during the poaching spike in December 2021 and was one of six rhino calves brought to the rehabilitation facility during the Christmas period.

“At just six hours old, her umbilical cord was still attached as she took her first steps with us,” recalls Care for Wild.

“Every day, we fought to save her precious life, and she quickly stole the hearts of people around the world with her quirky personality and determination to survive.”

Daisy has made incredible progress. Thanks to the ongoing support from her global family of supporters, she will continue on her unique rehabilitation path, gaining strength and confidence every day.

“Her love for blankets remains as strong as ever, and we are deeply grateful to all who sent these beautiful gifts over the years. Daisy is truly one of a kind, a very special rhino, and we thank everyone who has supported her along the way.”
