Flower season came early after rainfall brought a spectacular surprise for an area known for its desert charms!
Richtersveld, South Africa (27 July, 2023)—A slice of blooming paradise has unexpectedly popped up in the Northern Cape’s Richtersveld and locals are thrilled at the ‘desert’s’ gorgeous glow up to flower haven!
Thanks to an excess of rainfall, wildflowers began to bloom in a part of the Arid Region known for being a semi-desert. While deserts and their semi-counterparts do have their own natural wonders to marvel at, the thought of meandering through flowers in an unexpected oasis is something extra special; especially as the flowers came ahead of most flower seasons in South Africa (August to September’s end).
According to South African National Parks (SANParks), this is a once-in-a-lifetime gift that they can’t wait for the public to experience. In honour of the flower haven, the Armanshoek route has been specially opened for both hiking and 4×4 trails.
“The Armanshoek is not a normal tourist route but [has] been specially opened for three weeks to the public to share in the joy,” SANParks expressed.
The route will be accessible from the Richtersveld Transfrontier Park until 13 August.
