Eco Children is an organisation that was founded to boost the community and education of people living outside of a private game reserve.

Mpumalanga, South Africa (03 March 2022) – Children are very willing learners and often will take on more than we credit them for. Eco Children is an organisation sowing the seeds of change and educating children about the environment and how to protect it for the future.

Eco Children focuses on environmental education by working with the Limpopo and Mpumalanga communities to drive whole school development in a sustainable way. They adopt a school and focus on every aspect, from feeding programmes and literacy to school upgrades and social development. They apply a holistic and sustainable approach to uplifting students and the schools they adopt.

We spoke to Corne Havenga about the organisation and what they need to keep changing the lives of children. She shared that they have many projects people can contribute to.

“We have such a variety of projects, to holistically address the challenges faced by the education system: Infrastructure upgrades, school uniforms, age-appropriate English books, gently loved second-hand clothing, reusable sanitary towels and so much more”

Some of their projects include the Bursary programme, Library and Literacy programme, Infrastructure upgrades to classrooms, kitchens, playgrounds, Eco Village and Environmental education, and Kit-a-kid, which gives children school uniforms.

“Our first harvest for 2022! You’re bound to be rewarded if you put in the work and dedication. Looking forward to the scrumptious lunches that’ll be prepared with these fresh and nutritious veggies!”

You can help the organisation by setting up a fundraiser on behalf of Eco Children using their GivenGain profile here.

Amy Macaskill has started a fundraiser for Eco Children to contribute to the Bursary Programme.

Eco Children currently supports seven schools in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Corne says they are hoping to adopt the 8th school soon. You can find out more about Eco Children via their Facebook and Website.
