Just under 1000 Capetonians who are acting as everyday ocean conservationists, are taking on the 15.5km challenge to raise funds for Deli2Ocean’s 2023 causes.

Constantia, South Africa (20 November 2023) – On December 3rd just under 1000 Capetonians will gather for a unique and vibrant celebration for ocean conservation. The third annual Deli2Sea event promises to be a day filled with passion, purpose, and commitment to saving our oceans. This non-timed event is not just a walk; it’s a statement and a promise to our planet.

Deli2Sea Founder and Curator of The Good Machine, Gita Amber Carroll, says, “We never planned to create an event, but after 425 coffee cups lids were collected on Dalebrook Beach – something had to be done, and as an awareness raiser Deli2Sea kicked off in 2020 with 300 ‘movers’. This year we will have just under 1000!”.

Participants will embark on a 15.5 km journey, embracing various modes of movement – walking, running, wiggling – starting from Chardonnay Deli in Constantia and ending at Dalebrook Beach. The event showcases the best of our natural wonders and fosters a spirit of unity and community. Along the route, participants are encouraged to pick up litter, carry their own water, and make their own entry numbers out of recycled materials.

Carroll says, “It’s a pledge to do better – for the planet, and for yourself. It’s quirky and it’s tough, but it’s a whole lot of fun. It’s a collective vibration of expression, good thoughts and positive impact on earth and each other”.

In 2022, Deli2Sea donated R30,000 to the Two Oceans Aquarium, and this year’s goal is to have an even larger reach. The event is not just a one-day affair; it symbolizes sustainability, commitment, and change. Beneficiaries this year include The Fisherchild Projekt and Laureus Sport For Good.

No prizes will be awarded for ‘winners,’ but rather to those who collect the most litter or make the biggest splash or impression with their repurposed race numbers, dedicating their love to the sea.

You can join on December 3rd for Deli2Sea 2023 – a day of good vibes, a celebration of Earth, and a powerful commitment to the oceans we treasure.
