Little Mouse was once a tiny orphan in the care of the non-profit Coastal Horse Care Unit. However, after being adopted, this horse’s story has taken wonderful twists and turns, and she is now a show-horse champion!

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (05 February 2025) — Sometimes, second chances don’t just change lives; they create champions. Such is the case for a special horse named Little Mouse, whose life has unfolded in the most wonderful way.

Back in 2019, Little Mouse was just a tiny orphan, new to the world and in need of lots of care.

Fortunately, the young filly found herself in the midst of horse heroes thanks to Coastal Horse Care Unit—a non-profit based in Cato Ridge that is a champion of horse, pony and donkey welfare.

Hand-raised by the team, the horse got everything she needed, from surgery to love, as she stole hearts and reportedly became an infamous paddock escape artist. The only thing she was missing was a forever home.

Luckily for Little Mouse, her home soon found her after she was adopted by the Munday family. Their daughter Holly would go on to form an incredible partnership with Little Mouse.

All grown up now, Little Mouse has made her new family and her first family at the Coastal Horse Care Unit enormously proud, especially recently.

She and Holly competed in the prestigious SANESA (South African National Equestrian Schools Association) this month and came home as champions after winning their showing class!

“From orphan to champion, Little Mouse is living proof that with love, care, and dedication, anything is possible!” The Coastal Horse Care Unit beamed.
