A Makopane resident, deeply attached to her dog Molly, faced a difficult decision due to financial constraints. Unable to afford sterilisation, she had to surrender Molly and her recent litter of puppies to the SPCA. However, three compassionate individuals stepped in to help Molly return home.
Makopane, South Africa (01 November 2024) – With a heavy heart, a village resident in Naboom, Makopane, had to sadly surrender her beloved dog, Molly, not because she no longer wanted her, but because she just couldn’t afford to have Molly sterilised.
Molly recently gave birth to her second litter of puppies. With Molly’s previous litter, the resident gave the puppies to friends and family but soon noticed they weren’t receiving the care they needed.
The weight of responsibility to care for the pups personally also became too heavy to bear.
“She (the pet owner) even looked into getting Molly sterilized, visiting various vets, but the cost was simply too high.
“Molly has also overcome a lot in her three years—including surviving parvo and frequent visits from male dogs while she was on heat, with her owner doing all she could to keep them away,” shares the Makopane SPCA.
Making a very difficult decision, Molly’s owner chose to surrender her, along with the puppies, to the SPCA to ensure she would find a loving and responsible home.
But, in a heartwarming turn of events, Molly’s story took a beautiful turn this week!
Three Good Samaritans, Martin Van Der Breggen, Tollie van Buuren and Naboom Dierebeskerming, kindly raised R1,200 toward the dog’s sterilisation after being touched by the pet owner’s sacrifice of having to let go of her precious Molly.
Thanks to these incredible sponsors, Molly will have her “happily ever after” and return to the home she loves—spayed and healthy!
