A video has been uploaded to social media showing gushing water from the rain, pushing through rocks in the Eastern Cape as it makes its way to the dam.

With low rain fall in most parts of South Africa, videos like these are some of the most trending on social media at the moment.

This video, uploaded by Thelina Geater to the “Rainfall in the Kalahari” group over the weekend shows thousands of litres of water pushing through rocks near Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape.

The water flow is on track to meet the Nqweba Dam (previously known as Vanryneveld’s Pass Dam), an earth-fill type dam located on the Sundays River which is currently sitting at 8%.

Once an irrigation dam, it now mainly serves to supply potable water for domestic and industrial use to the residents and businesses of Graaff-Reinet. Its hazard potential has been ranked high.
