The SANParks Honorary Rangers spent the weekend collecting snares and walked away with 185 snares and 1 predator cage.
Kruger National Park, South Africa (24 April 2024) – SANParks Honorary Rangers work tirelessly to support the SANParks teams in keeping our national parks up to standard, whether by donating benches, revamping buildings, or supporting wildlife protection efforts.
The SANParks Honorary Rangers is a group of unpaid volunteers who give freely of their time to support wildlife conservation in South Africa’s National Parks. There are Honorary Ranger groups in every region.
Recently a group of volunteers worked to collect snares with the Kruger National Park. Snares are an illegal means in animal hunting where wildlife are captured with noose-like designs made from different materials like wire, cable or rope, usually for purposes of bushmeat and even illegal trading.
“SANParks Honorary Rangers volunteered their time and had another successful snaring weekend in the Kruger National Park during April, filled with rain 🌧️, sunshine ☀️, laughter, and tired legs but happy hearts!
Together, they removed a total of 185 snares & 1 predator cage, saving countless animal lives.
The organisers are incredibly thankful for the participation of volunteers from 7 different regions over the last 3 snare weekends. Thank you for joining hands and choosing to make a real difference in conservation!” – SANParks Honorary Rangers
It is operations like this that prevent further harm to our indigenous wild animals. If you want to become an honorary ranger, all you need to do is volunteer your time. You can also support their efforts here.
