Scan what you want to recycle, see how much you’re going to get back and then pop it in the reverse recycling machine! Recycling has never been this rewarding!!!

Johannesburg, South Africa (01 April 2021) – Imagined Earth is a revolutionary company, which has introduced reverse vending machines into South Africa… paying you to recycle!

The world generates at least 3.5 million tons of plastic and other solid waste a day, 10 times the amount a century ago. Luckily, there are a growing number of people and businesses who are moving to a zero-waste movement, and this new App is not only helping South Africa get there, but it’s paying us too!

Imagined Earth takes recycling to a new level by rewarding customers for recycling with their innovative Reverse Vending Machine – a first in South Africa.

“A Reverse Vending Machine (RVM] is a unique and interactive platform that provides both businesses and consumers an opportunity to contribute actively to the solution of environmental degradation in a convenient and rewarding way.”

The Imagined Earth system works off product bar codes. The machine is able to process plastic, glass, steel and aluminium, and rewards users for their recycling with money and rewards into a mobile wallet. You simply scan the barcode with the Imagined Earth app, and it tells you if the piece of packaging waste is able to be recycled through the RVMs or not.

You can then take all your recyclable material to your nearest RVM and turn your waste into shares on EasyEquities!

You can catch up with the team here:

It’s incentivising good behaviour, giving you cashback for your waste and providing you with a convenient recycling solution so you can do your bit to save the planet.

“We are living in an era of convenience and circular thinking. Imagined Earth, in partnership with business, provides a highly effective recovery tool that empowers people to live sustainably in these modern times,” says Justin Needham of Imagined Earth.

The current RVMs are placed in the following areas: Joburg at Sandton City, Pick n Pay on Nicol, Shell Hyde Park and Shell Parkhurst, and in Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront, Shell at Taronga Motors, Pick n Pay Camps Bay, Pick n Pay Constantia, and Woolworths Palmyra Junction.

More machines are constantly being rolled out around the country. For more information, click here.
