King was kept illegally as an exotic pet in a Paris apartment now follow his journey back home to South Africa, where he can be the King he was meant to be
King made headlines after being found kept as a pet in an apartment in Paris. Born Free launched an urgent appeal to get King home.
Born Free planned to transport King from Belgium to South Africa where he will be given a permanent home at their long-established big cat sanctuary at Shamwari.
The sanctuary is already home to 16 lions and leopards rescued from appalling captive conditions. King will be given lifetime care in a spacious, safe and natural environment, surrounded by the beautiful sights and sounds of Africa.
Born Free recently shared a short film showing King’s journey home to South Africa. Take a look below/
“King is a one-year-old lion cub who was rescued from an apartment in Paris during summer 2017 where he was being kept illegally as an ‘exotic pet’ in appalling conditions. Following a successful appeal, in July 2018 Born Free moved King to its Big Cat Rescue Centre at Shamwari Private Game Reserve, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Watch the moment King was introduced to his new home. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!”
Born Free opposes the keeping of wild animals as pets. For more information and to take action, see bornfree.org.uk/exotic-pet-trade
