Linden is prepping for a community-wide creative effort as part of this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Johannesburg, South Africa (23 November 2025) – The Linden Community Policing Forum (CPF), working with SAPS Linden, Cresta Mall and Linden Meanders, has launched 1001 Pictures on a Wall, an art project that invites the community to express what they believe is worth protecting through art.
Anyone, from the age of three to over a hundred, can contribute with an artwork reflecting something meaningful they think is worth protecting – kindness, dreams, safety, courage, friendships, or anything they feel matters in a world where gender-based violence remains a daily reality.
These artworks will be added to a growing public display at Cresta Shopping Centre from 27 to 30 November, becoming a visual collection of community voices and values.
“Art Activism is more than a campaign, it’s a visual platform for reflection, awareness, and community action. It encourages us to imagine the kind of society we want to build, one grounded in dignity, safety, kindness, and respect. Through creativity, we shift the focus from what we are fighting against to what we are standing for: kindness, hope, courage, care, and unity.” shares the CPF.
How to become an art activist for the cause?
Residents can create an A5 artwork in any style (drawing, painting, collage, photography or mixed media), Abstract or literal, simple or detailed; everything is welcome.
Once completed, artworks can be donated at several collection points, including Studio 6th Street, Potted Glass, or directly at SAPS Linden. Community members can also add their artwork in person to the public art wall at Cresta Mall from 28–30 November 2025, from 10:00–16:00.
The artworks will be displayed throughout that period as a growing installation, where the public gallery will slowly fill up with hundreds of artworks from the community.
The donated artworks will be available for purchase, allowing hope to spread even further.
The campaign encourages schools, families, book clubs, art groups and neighbours to create together. It’s a collective effort that focuses on an issue that affects everyone, and responds in a way that highlights the good that brings people together. Just when you thought Linden couldn’t get any cooler.
