Simone van Schalkwyk and her boyfriend found themselves at the centre of three huge lions’ attention; they handled the situation smoothly, considering!

Kruger National Park, South Africa (05 October 2021) – Everyone loves getting as close to a sighting as possible when on a game drive, but if the animal involved in the sighting decides, it would like a closer look at you, things can be a little nerve-wracking!

24-year-old Candidate Attorney, Simone van Schalkwyk, stopped to watch three male lions just outside of Lower Sabie, Kruger National Park. They enjoyed the sighting until the lions started walking down the road.

For some reason, the Lions took a liking to the car that Simone was driving. The extra attention, while absolutely breathtaking, also made Simone very nervous, and her instincts desperately wanted her to be away from the situation. We don’t blame her either; close encounters with wild animals is not fun!

Simone tells LatestSightings.com the story: “We had gone out on a very early morning game drive, as the only thing I wanted from our trip was to see big male lions. After passing some buffalo dung we carried on driving and then we saw these beautiful male lions walking in the road – finally, we had found them!”

“The lions were lying in the grass right next to the road and slowly got up – showing a lot of interest in our car, they came right up to my window looking right at me and even rubbed themselves against the bonnet. The emotions were unreal and slightly mixed, I was filled with excitement as well as a bit of fear seeing these male lions up close.”

“I love the bush and visit quite often but I have never experienced anything like this before. I am so lucky and blessed to have witnessed a lion look me straight in the eyes!”

“We spent quite some time with the lions and after a while, the lions lost interest and we carried on.”

Take a look at the hair-raising sighting below. Be warned; there is a little bit of colourful language.
