Snegugu Dladla’s growth from being a river warden to a full-time administrator is a reflection of The Litterboom Project’s commitment to empowering those involved in their fight against marine pollution.

Durban, South Africa (24 October 2024) – South Africa’s first large-scale river interception programme, which focuses on stopping marine plastic pollution from ending in the ocean, The Litterboom Project (TLP) has made great strides in the fight against marine pollution.

Beyond that, the organisation has also brought empowerment and real change in the lives of those who support their great work.

Taken under the TLP’s wing, Snegugu Dladla’s journey is a testament to how growth can flourish when the right opportunities are made available to dedicated individuals.

Snegugu, affectionately known as Sne, initially joined TLP as a River Warden on our Umbilo Team, working twice a week.

“Her communication skills, punctuality, and strong work ethic quickly caught the attention of our Operations Manager, Josh. After a year in that role, it became clear that Sne was ready for new challenges.

“When she applied for the wastrepreneur program, her administrative background and go-getter attitude made her the ideal candidate for an administrative position within the team,” shares TLP.

Sne completed the three-month Wastrepreneur training to enhance her computer and soft skills. Her journey showcases the importance of providing people with opportunities to grow.

Her dedication and hard work have made her an invaluable part of the team. Today, she plays a key role in The Litterboom Project as their go-to administrator.

Sne manages everything from team communication to high-level tasks and is the friendly face behind many of our events.

“Her contributions have become a cornerstone of our operations, and we are proud to have her on board.”

More than just a marine conservation initiative, TLP has proven to be a catalyst for personal growth and empowerment, paving the way for a brighter future for Sne and many others.
